French-Algerian choreographer Hervé Koubi's work is a highly physical, stunningly fluid piece with powerful Sufi imagery. The company of Algerian, Moroccan, Bulgarian, Italian, and French dancers perform "jaw dropping" (The Washington Post) work that explores the historical mix of countless cultures and religions that span the Mediterranean, all to the sounds and music of Kronos Quartet, Hamza El Din from Egypt and Johann Sebastian Bach.
Hervé Koubi grew up in France where he studied biology and dance at the University of Aix-en-Provence before deciding to concentrate on a dancing career and graduating from the Rosella Hightower School of Dance in Cannes. Since 2010, he has been working with a group of all-male street dancers from North Africa on various long form works including What The Day Owes To The Night to be performed at the Newman Center.
